I have been wondering why there isn't like a chat room... sorta like the yahoo chat rooms where we could chat with the people currently online

Would enough people visit it to make it worth while?

I'm not sure theres a high enough demand for it. I know I look in a few times during the course of my working day so I don't really need that function. If enough people ask for it then maybe UM would look into it.

IIRC, there are some free chatservers for gamers... Just create a UM channel perhaps... ? *It was a couple of years since I was active on my mIRC so...*

Chat rooms or instant messaging are great... if you don't plan on getting anything else done... like painting... or gaming... or work

Just do all those things before you chat

a chat thing could be quite good... although... what would we talk about?
Still it could be an idea... would mean the PM folder wouldn't get so full so quickly...

We don't you use MSN messenger or some other instant message engine....?

I tend to use Yahoo messenger to hassle people that I feel need hassling.
Although I only have it at home.

I got mIRC, ICQ and MSN on my ultralight laptop. As long as I'm close to the library, the Uni and home I have wireless 'net access 24/7!

i dont tend to use MSN or yahoo due to the bug and security probs they have... also its a pain when gaming online as they add to the background processes.
but the question remains.... IS there enough attention on this site to warant it .?!
possible when there is more action and hype and buildup of things. but not at the moment

Whaty I have seen done on the run-up to a book, or similar, the author/designers host a webchat where fanlings can ask questions. That could be an idea...

It snot only the level of interest you have to take into account. That is still an issue of course and I wouldn't have thought that the site warrants a full time chat room myself, but also bear in mind staffing the place. We have 4 mods here and a Rod doing site admin.. and that's it. All of us have full time jobs (yes... even me) so dedicating the time to coordinate and moderate a chat room just isn't a possibility
The occasional chat idea might work, but again it would have to be when there is generally more time to spare... worth thinking about tho

ahhh... a limited time chat room could be an idea, but yes policing it would be dashed tricky.

Give me a few beers and I should be able to come up with most of the words....
