Full Version: Marine Support Teams In Assault

OK, here's one that we've actually played BOTH ways and I wanted to get opinions from other Viridian players on how they do it and their rational....

Viridians Support teams are listed having the same stat lines as your basic vanilla Marines. But the crew is also listed as having three members.

Option #1 The whole crew is one, with one wound knocking the whole team out.

Option #2 The stat line is for every member in the crew, so to knock one team out actually takes 3 wounds, not 1. For every wound the crew takes, one member is gone, with an attendent -1 to hit for every crew member killed.

Rational for us:

Option #1 seems to be what the rule book intends, and we've been playing that way for a while, but have toyed with Option #2 of late. The thing is....

Option #2 (while it may SEEM more logical) - - - with a basic Marine's point value being 17, and 17 x 3 crew members = 51pts, how does the value of the actual WEAPON work in? You get a reduction in points to get the support weapon?

For BOTH options, we revert to 3 figures with Marine stats armed with Combat Blades if assault is achieved. But the different option (1 or 2) can spell far different results overall when the team is hit by IDF themselves.)

Like I said, we've been toying with it and I wanted to know what others play....

It's option 2, each of the three team members (or two in case of commando teams) counts as a single model with the statline give in the forcelist. This means that each wound kills one team member, invoking the to-hit modifiers given in the rules.
It also means that instead of firing the main weapon you can instead fire the three autopistols of a gauss cannon team.

Well, I kinda worked it out on my own after doing some math.

With the gauss rifles gone, the point value of three Marines w/basic stat line and just a combat blade is low. VERY low. Low enough that playing the support team as three Marines makes alot more sense.

We toyed with both ways, and the games were fine either way, but - you learn and change and move on. cool.gif
